Description

The 2019 Field Education Appreciation Event is open by invitation to current Mandel School field instructors, task supervisors & agency partners in recognition of your many contributions to our students and to the future of the social work profession. This year’s event will feature Dr. Adrianne Fletcher, Assistant Dean of Diversity and Inclusion at the Mandel School. Dr. Fletcher will present “Brave Spaces, Authentic Conversations: Promoting Racial Equity and Social Justice in Field Education”. A panel discussion and luncheon celebration will immediately follow the presentation. The event will also be offered via livestream for those unable to travel to campus.

The presentation is pending approval from the Ohio Counselor and Social Work Board for three (3) CEUs. Participants residing outside of the State of Ohio may petition individual state licensing boards for potential continuing education hour approval, depending on licensing rules and regulations. Participants attending the presentation via livestream will be eligible to receive Ohio CSWMFT approved CEUs by verifying their attendance through required check-in and check-out procedures and successfully completing a post-test & evaluation. Specific instructions for livestream participants will be provided prior to the beginning of the event.

This session will empower field educators to prioritize racial equity and social justice within the field practicum and the student/field instructor supervisory relationship. Presenters will discuss supervisor, institutional and systemic self-awareness from a lens of racial equity and social justice. Participants will receive strategies to support culturally responsive field instruction.

The training will focus on the following learning objectives. Participants will:

  • Demonstrate increased awareness of implicit attitude and its impact.

  • Identify actions which contribute to the decrease of implicit attitude and the increase of cultural humility and flexibility.

  • Demonstrate increased knowledge of supervisory practices that promote racial equity within the field instructor/student relationship.
